This is a painting of Saxmundham church in Suffolk, UK. The scene was roughly sketched out in thin ultramarine acrylic, developed in ultramarine and white, then other primary colours were washed on before completion in more thin and thicker layers.

Stage 1 Direct sketching in paint, with lines of perspective.

Stage 3 Tones built up with ultramarine and white.

Stage 5 First washes of vermilion and cadmium yellow were applied.

Stage 2  Main areas of shadow applied with ultramarine

Stage 4 More tonal development with the same 2 colours.

Final stage. More washes were applied of all primary colours,
and thin wash of white plus cerulean blue was applied to create a morning mist effect on the church and background.
